SOME 200 senior citizens had a gala time at the Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) cineplex in Queensbay Mall, Penang, when they were recently treated to a movie ‘Red Cliff II,’ complete with popcorn and soft drinks.
The senior citizens from the Penang Senior Citizens’ Association arrived as early as 9.30am at the cineplex foyer area.
Also present was association president Lawrence Cheah and cinema manager Sam Kok Kee.
Before the movie started, they were treated to breakfast comprising fried bee hoon, dim sum, cakes and sandwiches.
This was followed by a free health screening inclusive of glucose and blood pressure tests as well as height and weight checks by staff members of the Lam Wah Ee Hospital.
On hand to advise them about taking care of their diet was the hospital’s dietitian Lin Eng Yan.
There was also a bone scan scree-ning for them by Anlene.
GSC Queensbay marketing executive Kevin Choe said the free screenings were in conjunction with the mall’s second anniversary.
“It is also part of our corporate social responsibility towards the senior citizens in our society,’’ he said.
Cheah said the screening enabled some of his members, who had not gone to the cinemas in a long time, a chance to sit back and enjoy a movie at a cinema which had state-of-the-art theatre technology.
Just before the screening of the movie, the hospital’s health educator Teoh Seow Nga gave a brief talk on diabetes.
